This was my first time going to Calle Ocho; what a shock! I’m a South Florida native, but my family never prioritized Calle. So after hearing about it opening back up this year, I took my Cannon Rebel and dragged a friend along to check it out. A time was had! This was my first time documenting a street event and entering them into a photo contest. It was nerve-wracking! I didn’t know which photos to choose. I took over 600 photos, and they only wanted 8!! After seeing what won, I would’ve chosen differently and been more daring while shooting. It was a great experience, nevertheless. So, here are some of my favorite shots from that day. I took some photos on film, too; I’ll share those once they’re developed.

This set is titled yours/ours because Calle is yours, Miami, but it is ours too! There’s no place in North America that’s quite like South Florida, and you have us to thank for that: the ones who live, labor, and love under that tropical sun.
